An significant increase in the efficiency of energy systems can be achieved by the development of combined cycles.Examples of high efficiency cycles are Combined Cycle Power Plant(CCPP)and Gas Turbine Air Bottoming Cycle(GT-ABC),which is a combination of a gas turbine and air turbine cycle coupled by means of a heat exchanger referred to as the Air Heat Exchanger(AHX).The main feature of the GT-ABC is a low water consumption and fast start-up.The mechanical power obtained from the turbine can be used either to support the gas turbine system or to power generation.The GT-ABC operation as a peaking power plant is very interesting in terms of power generation.Due to the short start-up time of the air turbine,the ability to meet the peak demand for power may be significant.The paper presents selected technological structures of the GT-ABC system.A method of increasing the efficiency and mechanical power output of existing gas turbines is shown.Base-and peak load operations of the GT-ABC system are analyzed.Investment expenditures on main equipment are estimated.An economic analysis of the GT-ABC base-and peak load operations is performed.
