Although hydrophobic nanofiber membranes are considered as promising candidates for membrane distillation (MD) application due to their high porosity and hydrophobicity, they still suffer performance instability in long-term direct contact membrane distillation (DCMD) process [1]. The possible solution to enhance the wetting resistance of nanofiber membranes is to shift the hydrophobicity of membranes to superhydrophobicity. In this research, superhydrophobic membranes were fabricated facilely by designing a hierarchical structure on polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) nanofiber membrane surface via electro-spinning of a PVDF dope blended with modified-SiO2 nano-particles.
