Cumulus congestus clouds play a vital role in the development of tropical convection, including the cooling and moistening of the middle troposphere. It has been found that transient or terminal congestus growth is influenced by several environmental factors, including ambient relative humidity and the strength of the weak stable layer near the freezing level. This study seeks to investigate the influence of aerosol particles on the ability of congestus clouds to modify their environment and subsequently develop into deep convection through the use of cloud resolving model simulations.
