This paper investigates phantom array effect from a time modulated moving light source without eyemovement.It is well-known that the phantom array, or bead string artifact, can be observed when time modulated light sources are exposed during saccadic eye movement.In the field test on the perception of automotive rear lamps using pulsed LED with different frequencies, phantom array effect (bead string artifact) was detected without eye movement.To find relationship between the eye movement and the light source movement in phantom array effect, we evaluate the detection frequency of phantom array effect during eye movement and light source movement.Experimental results show that the threshold value of phantom array effect depends on the speed of a moving light source.The maximum threshold frequency value of phantom array effect by eye movement with fixed light source is related to the angular velocities during saccadic eye movement.Our result will be useful to predict phantom array effect from fast movement of time modulated LED light sources such as dynamic signal LED lamps and multi-functional rear lamps.
