In sugar Industry, during clarification process, polyphenols in cane juice react with iron produced due to corrosion from factory equipments (even made of mild steel) and form brownish complex compounds. These coloured complexes are deposited on sugar crystals and are partly responsible for the deterioration of the sugar quality. In the present investigation different alkaloidal plants are studied for their inhibiting property to slow down iron corrosion as they contain nitrogen base. Extract of these alkaloidal plants have property to form preventive layer over mild steel due to tertiary nitrogen present in alkaloidal constituents. Therefore we have taken few alkaloidal plants naming Ipomoea cornea; Tobacco and Amaranthus for the comparative study.
