An experiment was conducted at the experimental form of the institute U.P. Council of Sugarcane Research, Shahjahanpur, for three consecutive years (2009-12) to evaluate the post harvest quality deterioration of CoS 767, 98259, 99259, 97261, CoSe 01424, UP 0097 and UP 9530 sugarcane varieties commonly cultivated as well as to identify the cultivar possessing better juice quality for later part of the crushing season under sub-tropical environmental condition. The Varieties UP 9530, CoS 767 and CoS 97261 were found more resistant to loss in sucrose and purity coefficient of cane juice starting from month January till April while variety CoS 99259 was more susceptible to deteriorate in these indices and showed highest loss till April. Thus former three cultivars appear to be more suitable and sustainable for late crushing period of sugar mills in sub tropical tract. However these cultivars also showed some losses in quality with time elapsed after harvesting thus cut-to-crush delay should be minimized to obtain maximum potentials of the cultivars.
