Functional Coatings based on Vapor Deposition of Triazine based Compounds

Functional coatings are described based on vacuum deposition of a class of organic compounds named traizine. First the basic chemical and physical properties of a prominent member of triazine compounds called 1,3,5-triazine-2,4,6-triamine are presented. Then typical process conditions are shown for roll-to-roll physical vacuum deposition of this triazine compound. Two main applications of functional coatings based on triazine compounds are highlighted, i.e. as barrier layer in flexible food packaging and for thin film encapsulation of OLEDs. It is shown that such coatings can be used as an effective alternative for other existing barrier materials such as PVdC and EVOH. Basic feasibility of the use of triazine based coatings in thin film encapsulation of OLEDs is demonstrated.
