Structural and electrochemical characterizations were performed to evaluate the effect of nano-sized SiO_2 filler on poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO)-1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium hydrogensulfate (EMIHSO_4) electrolytes. The increase in ionic conductivity in the -10 to +80°C temperature range is attributed to an enhanced ionic dissociation as well as a more stable amorphous phase in the polymer electrolyte with SiO_2 filler. Electrochemical capacitors using this polymer electrolyte demonstrated a high-rate response up to 1 V/s with a time constant of 1 s.
