MECHANICALLY SORTED MSW ORGANIC FRACTION: EVALUATION OF THE RECOVERY OPTIONS

Although the separate collection of the organic fraction of municipal solid waste (OFMSW) is a well-established practice, a relevant part of biodegradable waste is still present in the waste stream which is not source-sorted. As a result, mechanical and biological treatments (MBT) of unsorted municipal solid waste (MSW) are a necessary option to reduce organic fraction content, in order to allow the proper thermal utilization of residual waste as well as impacts related to its direct disposal.
