Technical communication (TC) Workgroups are increasingly adopting component content management (CCM) technologies to efficiently author and manage content objects. Successful adoption of these technologies, however, requires a continuous exchange of knowledge, skills, and processes across vendor and TC-work-group boundaries. Having an overly simplistic view of technology diffusion and insufficient training and resources, many work groups struggle to achieve their CCM adoption goals. In this report, I elucidate the planning and learning challenges one group faced when attempting to evaluate and adopt a CCM system. I end with specific recommendations for TC practitioners and researchers, as well as f or CCM technology developers.
