Map Modernization Protocol for Bridge Replacement Projects

The stated objective of the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) Map Modernization initiative was to increase state and local map ownership. This was accomplished by encouraging greater participation in the development and maintenance of the data submitted in compliance with the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). In light of the initiative, FEMA Region IV approached the South Carolina Department of Transportation (DOT) with a request for the submittal of data on all bridge replacements completed since the date of the effective Flood Insurance Study (FIS) for all participating communities within the state.
