Angiogenesis is an important process in the repair of damaged tissues through the formation of new blood vessel from pre-existing vasculature by processes such as sprouting, pruning and intussusceptions [1]. However, this process needs to be tightly controlled as excess angiogenesis can cause production of non-functional tissues and the development of fibrotic tissue which impedes the repair process. For instance, many diseases such as arthritis, diabetic retinopathy and gastric ulcers are lead by persistent uncontrolled angiogenesis.
