A COMMON CONCEPT of reliability engineering is that failure rates are high at both the be ginning and end of an asset's useable life. Despite this, the primary focus of most integrity management programs is aging assets, even for those companies building new infrastructure. After running hundreds of deformation tools at the construction phase and metal loss tools in the early life of assets, Access Midstream (ACMP) has concluded that inspection for construction related and early life defects is just as important as assessing for traditional threats to aging pipelines. For midstream operators who are experiencing unprecedented organic growth, these types of threats may be the single greatest threat to their operations.
