Mechanical Properties of Steel Crane Beam Strengthened by CFRP

In this paper, the mechanical properties of steel crane beam strengthened by carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) were researched in details. The research work was developed by the experimental method to principally examine the capacity of steel crane beams strengthened by CFRP under static loads and the anti-fatigue character under cyclic loads. The test results show that those properties of the beams are efficiently promoted after strengthened with the CFRP. And the reinforcement effects are related to the layer number of the CFRP. Meanwhile, a numerical analysis for the test process had been conducted by finite element method (FEM), which got a consistent result with the experiment. The finding of this paper indicates that the way is achievable that improving the mechanical character of the steel crane beam with CFRP.
