In this study by electric car will be understood what will be called grid enabled light vehicles - GELVs, i.e., automobiles, vans and the like, including motorcycles, fitted to tap electricity from the main grid. Two scenarios were structured, Medium and High, whereby impacts on both consumption and demand in the State of So Paulo where projected for the period 2010-2030. As the present generation of GELVs should be considered as technological innovations, special attention is called to the accelerated diffusion that is typical in their early years of introduction, which could lead to sudden increases in localized peak loads in the residential sector. In the long term, in the High case, significant impacts can also be verified both in the generation and transmission systems. Special attention is also pointed out for the case of electric motorcycles, which, so far, is the only sort of GELV that is available in the market within the reach of the average consumer.
