The mass transfer through a membrane is influenced by the transport properties of the membrane itself and the transport conditions in the gas phase. The appearance of concentration polarisation effects caused by limited mass transfer in the gas phase are often neglected in investigations of oxygen transport membranes. This results in the evaluation of apparent membrane properties. A CFD-based method has been developed, which allows to identify the intrinsic material properties by taken the concentration polarisation effects into account.
