Refrigeration compressors are greatly influenced by temperature levels of their internal components. Therefore, a detailed thermal analysis of such components can lead to considerable improvements in the compressor performance, mainly through the reduction of gas superheating.Absolute gains are quite significant in the case of commercial compressors adopted in high energy consumption refrigeration systems. The present paper reports the thermal management of a commercial compressor through a simulation methodology previously developed. The temperature of each component is evaluated via a hybrid approach,in which integral and differential formulations are coupled. After being validated with reference to experimental data, the numerical model is applied to analyze the compressor thermal behavior for a certain design modification.
