Field experiment was conducted to study the planting systems and intercrops on growth, yield and economics of sum sugarcane (Co 94012) in South Maharashtra during 2006-07 to 2008-09 at Regional Sugarcane and Jaggery Research Station, Kolhapur. The studies indicated that, paired row planting at 75-150 cm recorded significantly higher cane yield ( 90.26 t ha~(-1)) over conventional planting at 90 cm row distance and paired row planting at 90-180 cm. Amongst the intercrop, groundnut intercropped with cane recorded significantly highest cane yield (89.43 t ha~(-1)) but at par with cabbage intercrop in sugarcane (87.88 t ha~(-1)). In respect of cane equivalent yield, both treatments of paired row planting at 75-150 cm and 90-180 cm, were found to be at par ( 98.36 and 98.44 t ha~(-1)) but they were significantly superior over conventional planting at 90 cm (92.371 ha~(-1)). The sugarcane intercropped with groundnut recorded significantly higher cane equivalent yield (102.67 t ha~(-1)) than other intercrops. The highest gross monitory returns, net returns and B : C ratio (Rs 116495/-, 27860/- and 1.32 respectively) was recorded in paired row planting of 75-150 cm, with intercrop of groundnut in sugarcane.
