摘要

Several studies have suggested that there is an increase in job satisfaction by employees participating in telecommuting programs. However, recent research also seems to indicate that when a limited number of employees in an office participate in telecommuting, there is a decrease in co-worker job satisfaction and a negative impact on the office culture. Restrictions on the number of employees allowed to participate in telecommuting programs may be due to reasonable management concerns, however, the limiting rationale may not be acceptable to the employee. The organization structure, including degree of centralization, and culture, may also contribute to issues of job satisfaction. It is assumed at this time that the information technology and infrastructure required to implement a home office or similar telecommuting arrangement is easily available and at a reasonable cost. This paper reviews the recent literature on telecommuting and provides a path forward for future research.
