Monocrystalline diamonds are used as cutting parts for milling tools to produce structures with a geometric accuracy less than 1 μm and of a surface quality with roughness values of less than Ra = 5 nm. Three types of monocrystalline diamond are available on the market. These are natural diamond (ND), high pressure synthetic diamond (HSD), and monocrystalline CVD-diamond (MCCVDD). The paper shows results for milling tools with a diameter of D = 0.25 mm and D = 0.5 mm. For all experimental results, presented in this paper, brass work pieces with a Vickers Hardness of 145 HV are used.
