Slope erosion and flooding of the open-pit mines are typical problems which need proper drainagecontrols at the heavy rainfall region where surface drainage pattern is dominated by the fast change of landformdue to mining operation. This paper presents an application of GIS-based hydrological modeling, spatial analysisand slope stability in a region of Pasir coal mine,Indonesia. A detailed topographical survey was performed atthe study area to generate a reliable DEM. By using GIS,the more reproducible information about hydrologicalcharacteristic of drainage system could be extracted from DEM. The results from drainage analysis and raster-based spatial analysis showed that current arrangement of pumping facility is not suitable and some vulnerableplaces to erosion exist on the bench face due to concentrated surface runoff. Finally, some practical measureswere suggested to optimize the design of drainage system and to monitor the slope stability by the surface watermanagement at the study region during heavy rainfall.
