AN EVALUATION OF THE MANAGED CARE PROGRAM AS APPLIED TO THE BRAZILIAN SUPPLEMENTARY HEALTH SERVICE

This paper focuses on the economic and financial performance of supplementary health operators in the Brazilian market. A large database from the National Supplementary Health agency (ANS) provides the necessary background for the study. A Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) model is proposed to evaluate the performance and to rank a sample of operators. Three companies that apply the Managed Care Program (MCP) are chosen and evaluated in accordance with the relative efficiency score. It is expected to identify the necessary reform strategies of the sector in order to suggest a new-fangled supplementary health assistance program.
