The water flow of evaporative condensers is theoretically less than 10% of that for water-cooled condensers, which results in lower energy consumption. The energy consumptions of different brands of evaporative condenser and water-cooled condenser have been analyzed by theoretical calculation, product selection calculation and field test. Results from theoretical calculation show that little difference exists in the energy consumption of heat rejection per kW for evaporative condensers in product selection calculation and field test. The greatest difference in energy consumption is between different brands of evaporative condenser at the same heat-rejection capacity. The energy consumption of the brand B evaporative condenser is nearly double that for brand A. Based on the field test results, the average energy consumption of three typical brands of evaporative condenser is approximately 32% of that for open water-cooled condensers and 47% of that for closed water-cooled condensers.
