A line start permanent magnet motor (LSPM) has 3 kinds of torque which are the reluctance, the magnet and the cage torque. In this paper, each torque components of a single-phase LSPM are evaluated by the time stepping FEM. To divide the net torque into respective torques at every time steps, the superposition theory is applied to the FEM with frozen permeability technique to consider the non-linear effect. The analysis is performed for the non-skewed and skewed motor, and then torque characteristics are compared with.
