The calculation of heat loss from solar receiver is important to design of solar receiver because proper estimation of thermal efficiency is a key information to predict the power generation of solar thermal power plant. Therefore, simulation on the heat loss from cavity of solar power tower receiver is conducted by using CFD code of Fluent. In order to know the effect of cavity shape and tilt angle on the heat loss, three different types of cavity and three different tilt angles are considered with increasing wind speed from 2 to 8 m/s. In addition, calculations are performed with changing the wind direction from head-on to side-on wind. From the results, the wind speed, the size and the position of aperture effect on the convective heat losses are presented.
