Austempered Ductile Iron (ADI) exhibits a good combination of mechanical resistance and tenacity, with elevated wearing resistance. ADI has mechanical properties similar or superior to forged steel, with a fabrication cost by resistance unit much inferior. The material properties are a result of its microstructure, ausferrite which is composed by high carbon austenite, acicular ferrite and also graphite nodes [1] ADI is a low cost alternative for welded, forged or cast steel and aluminum components, creating opportunities for the cast iron industry [2],
