It has long been known that situations that result in stray magnetic fields can produce window type current transformer (CT) transformation error problems. This is particularly true when primary currents are very large, cores are relatively small, the primary conductor is not centered, the core is oddly shaped, the primary current carrying conductors change direction soon after exiting the CT window, or other phase conducts are in close proximity to the outside edge of the CT window. Further, it is worth noting that, not only are these situations possible, they are probable, and exist to some degree in almost every CT installation.
