High Fiber Count Microduct Cables

During the past years more and more networks are installed using microduct technology and microduct cables. Up to now the most common fiber content commercially installed is 72, however also designs with 96 fibers are widely in use. During the recent past a trend towards significantly higher fiber counts can be observed. The relevant microduct sizes to focus on are 14/1 lmm and 15/12mm outer/inner diameter, respectively. To achieve higher fiber counts several approaches are possible. The general requirements concerning cable properties, especially blowing performance remain the same as for the existing microduct cables. In this paper new designs are described, the results of mechanical, environmental and blowing tests presented and discussed.
