Most data transfer protocols in wireless sensor networks are based on non-acknowledgement of data packets at receiving nodes. The non-acknowledgement based protocols are extensively used in energy-constrained wireless sensor networks because they use considerably less messages compared to acknowledgement based protocols However, non-acknowledgement based protocols cannot guarantee delivery of packets when probability of successful transmission of a data packet between two nodes which are within each other's transmission ranges is less than one. We present an efficient method where sending nodes guarantee one data packet delivery to receiving nodes. This method when incorporated with any non-acknowledgement based protocol in which receiving nodes detect and request missing packets, will guarantee data delivery without loss, and with minimal increase in delivery time and number of messages in comparison to the original protocol. The performance will also be better than acknowledgement based protocols.
