The semi-active skyhook algorithm as a simple controller was applied to the benchmark problem. The damper force hysteresis-curves show a negative stiffness effect. This property can reduce the absolute acceleration response of the structure to the cost of larger displacements. The simple “passive” algorithm is proposed such that it is potential to operate without computer or sensors. It operates basically by electro-mechanically system without any computation, reducing the need for complicated control process. The proposed algorithm produces negative stiffness friction force. The combination of the force with bearing force will result in virtually rigid-perfectly plastic force-deformation characteristics. The advantage is that it reduces displacement and keeps the base shear small.
