INTEGRATION OF MODEL THEORY APPROACH FOR MIS DEVELOPMENT AND MODEL BASED SYSTEMS ENGINEERING

The model theory approach was proposed as a new methodology for management information system (MIS) development. It has a system theoretic model for an MIS, which is formalized as a model theoretic structure. When a model for the target system is constructed in set theory following the structure, an executable system is automatically generated from the model. On the other hand, the model based systems engineering (MBSE) was developed as a general formal theory to provide a theoretical foundation for systems engineering in general. It provides a comprehensive scheme based on a system life cycle. The MBSE is claimed to be mathematically rigorous yet addressed directly to practical problems. Although it is said that an MIS development problem is included in the practical problems, it is not so operational as the model theory approach for MIS development. This paper integrates both approaches to produce a comprehensive and operational approach to MIS development.
