Study on Roadmapping Methods for Supporting Scientific Research

With the development of Management of Technology (MOT) in industry, the study of Technology Roadmapping methods became one of the hot topics for researchers in this area, and many technology roadmapping methods have been proposed. Unfortunately, the most widely used technology roadmapping methods only deal with problems in industry as a way to do forecasting and planning. In this paper, we consider a new concept named MOS (Management of Science) and propose a technology roadmapping method suitable for use in universities. First, the paper introduces a case study that has to do with forecasting for transportation fuel cell using technology roadmapping. Then the process of making the fuel cell roadmap is represented in detail. Next as a basis for improving the fuel cell roadmap, the requirements of fuel cell researchers are investigated. Finally, based on this case study, we propose a technology roadmapping system for supporting scientific research. We hope that this system will become a powerful tool for technology development as a method of MOS.
