The influence of fire on arbuscular mycorrhizae (AM) colonization was studied in two field trials in 2005. The plants were native grasses Phragmites communis and Aneurolepidium sp. in a Hexi corridor trial; Aneurolepidium sp., and the cultured grasses Festuca arundinacea . Poa prapensis, and Bromus inermis in a Xifeng trial. Burning increased AM colonization of Aneurolepidium sp. significantly in both trials (P < 0.05). The AM colonization of burning treatments in the Hexi Corridor were 37. 4% and 21. 7%, but were only 31. 2 % and 16. 6% at Xifeng. Burning decreased AM colonization of the remaining grasses, significantly (P < 0.05) of B. inermis, the colonization rates were 29. 8% to un-burnt grass and 24. 9% to burnt.
