How to accurately detect the dam leakage and monitor its development is the most concered problem for the conservancy engineers. Based on the analysis of the existent detecting method, the application of the finite element method (FEM) is put forward to simulate dam leakage monitoring by the resistivity imaging technology. The numerical modeling results show that the resistivity imaging technology can detect the dam leakage and monitor its development in flood season, and if combined with multi-section survey method it can trace the strike direction of the leakage passage.
