摘要

Progressive degenerative of intervertebral discs in the cervical spine is inevitable with age. Surgical intervention to mitigate a degenerated disc has traditionally relied on arthrodesis. However, arthrodesis has been implicated in the development of adjacent segment degeneration due to altered mechanics. It has been proposed that cervical disc arthroplasty following discectomy, as an alternative to fusion, promotes restoration of normal range of motion at the affected and adjacent levels.
