Microwave assisted synthesis of nanostructured materials has recently shown remarkable advantages over the conventional synthesis routes such as rapid volumetric heating, high reaction rate, reduced particle size, homogeneous and narrow size distribution of particles. In this work, we report a comparison between conventional and microwave assisted methods for loading of silver-gold (Ag-Au) nanoparticles on the surface oxidized carbon nanotubes (CNTs). Both wet impregnation and deposition precipitation methods were used as the conventional methods for the preparation of the Ag-Au/CNT heterostructures. The synthesized heterostructures were Characterized using high-resolution scanning and transmission electron microscopy, Raman spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction. Results showed that microwave assisted- synthesis method produced much better distribution and property enhancement on Ag-Au/CNT composites when compared to the conventional methods.
