Home appliance networking technology creating new services beyond triple play

摘要

The number of broadband access users has been increasing enormously worldwide. Telecom carriers have been developing new services provided to these broadband access users. The major ones are Internet access, VoIP and IP-TV that are ingredients of "triple play". Now we are investing new services beyond triple play, and believing that connecting home appliance onto the Internet will create new attractive network services. The investigation showed that there were technical issues to be solved in order to make the services secure and useful. The issues are network security risk and accommodating various appliance interfaces. To solve the issues, we propose new network architecture composed with a home gateway and a center server. Prototype system which demonstrates our concept and technology is also described in this paper.
