Nowadays, the most of the submarine cables are constructed by the optical amplifier technologies applying the bit-rate free transmission. And there are lot of non-lit extra capacities and extra bandwidth in those existing systems. Then, in order to minimize the investment to expand the transmission capacity, Fujitsu is proposing the most advanced dense WDM Terminal Equipment Technologies for the system capacity upgrading, which provides the most effective solutions to the requirement of Telecom Customers and it can reduce both CAPEX and OPEX of the system. This papers outlines the upgrading scheme with the advanced architectures and technologies required. We also touch about the cost comparison between new cable construction and capacity upgrade.
