A regional ice-ocean coupled model is used to study the dynamic and thermodynamic coupling process in the Bohai Sea. A short-term ice melting process was simulated forcing by the assimilative forecasting results of MM5 using dynamic ice model, dynamic-thermodynamic ice model, and ice-ocean coupled model, respectively. Research results show that the thermodynamic effects of atmosphere and ocean are very important for the period of ice melting in the Bohai Sea. Bases on weak-constraint variation principle, the coupled model has been applied to the formation of the ice thickness and ice concentration fields and the primary result has been got.
