Impact of ice features on the seabed is serious issue for design of subsea installation. In the period between 1999 and 2003, a complex of studies was carried out annually in the framework of summer expedition surveys in the area near Varandey (southeastern Barents Sea) including a sonar survey of seabed in order to determine the ice gouging parameters. The interest in this region is linked to development of both onshore and offshore oil fields. In particular, a construction of an offshore oil loading system, which includes a pipeline laid on seabed, has been completed. The sonar survey materials have allowed to estimate the main scour parameters such as length, width, orientation and depth as well as their spatial distribution.
