VR (Virtual Reality) technology has been applied in ship industry for several years. With the rapid development of the digitalization of ship design and manufacturing, VR systems targeting a single application can no longer fully meet the need for multilateral cooperation in the shipbuilding cycle. As a solution, Shanghai Jiao Tong University built a VR system that integrates the visual data of the ship life cycle and presents these data through 3D visual display to the designing party, the manufacturing party and the end user. This solution can enhance the multi-party participation in the decision making process and help locate the problems at an early stage of designing and manufacturing. The present paper introduces the concept design and actual implementation of this VR system and explores multilateral cooperation therein.
