The subjective experiments were carried out to evaluate thermal comfort in highly airtight and insulated rooms,where floor heaters and air-conditioners were installed. The Rooms were designed to follow the Next-generation Standards for Energy Saving and the New Energy Saving Standards in Japan. For each of floor heating and air-conditioner tests, three air temperature conditions were applied. Air temperature conditions for floor heater were set as 18°C, 20°C, and 22°C. Air temperature conditions for air-conditioner were set as 20°C, 22°C, and 24°C.Eight healthy young male volunteers participated in the experiment conducted in the Next-generation and the New Energy Saving Standards rooms. There were more subjects who wanted floor surface temperature to be higher when using air-conditioner compared to the case when using floor heater. The relationship between thermal sensation and comfort sensation showed no significant difference between rooms for male subjects.
