This paper deals with the application of fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) plates with openings as shear reinforcement for reinforced concrete deep beams. Glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) plate was applied as shear reinforcement for reinforced concrete deep beams. The shear strength of the deep beam shear reinforced with a GFRP plate was evaluated using a shear experiment. The amount shear reinforcement, shear span-to-depth ratio are considered as main variables. Five specimens were constructed for the shear experiment. The investigation of the effect of the shear span-to-depth ratio showed that the shear strength increased as the ratio decreased while the deflection decreased as the ratio decreases. In addition, the shear strength of the concrete deep beam shear reinforced with a GFRP plate was computed using the strut-and-tie model in ACI 318-11. The comparison showed the strut-and-tie model of ACI 318-11 can accurately predict the shear strength of reinforced concrete deep beams with FRP plates.
