Experiment was conducted during 4-Feb to 27-Feb in Xiamen and white coating (reflectivity of 0.79), yellow coating (reflectivity of 0.57) and black coating (reflectivity of 0.05) were applied to three identical top-floor rooms with same floor area, envelope material and orientation. The three rooms were monitored in non-conditioned rooms and the impact on thermal comfort was studied using adaptive predicted mean vote (aPMV). Compared with room with black coating, the exterior, interior surface and indoor temperatures of white and yellow coating rooms are lower and the maximum reduction of exterior and interior surface temperatures is 10.9°C and 3.1°C respectively using white coating. With windows open, indoor temperatures of room using white and yellow coating can be reduced by up to 0.2°C and 0.1°C on average respectively and 0.4°C and 0.2°C respectively when the windows were closed. The black coating room was more comfortable than white and yellow coating room when the window were closed, while the difference of comfort satisfaction was minor when the windows were opened.
