Preparation and antibacterial activity of silver nanoparticles supported by TiO_2-chitosan nanocomposites

Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) have known for its antimicrobial activity whereas chitosan is the substance which has been proven to have excellent biocompatibility, antimicrobial activity and film-forming ability. The study utilized the strong metal-support interaction between AgNPs and TiO_2 to enhance the adhesion of AgNPs on TiO_2 support, then combined AgNPs supported by TiO_2 with chitosan to observe its property of antimicrobial ability. We synthesize well-dispersed AgNPs/TiO_2 by incipient wetness impregnation method and combine chitosan with a crosslinking agent. The result showed the inhibit microbial activity when concentration of CS/TiO_2/Ag was about 20 μg/mL.
