Recent changes in the society and economy lead to the need to study new approaches to model and develop an emerging generation of manufacturing systems. In a global scenario with customized trends, dynamism and information incompleteness are key factors to consider. In this scenario, Agent-based systems appear as a well suited approach for supporting distributed intelligence in manufacturing, allowing autonomy, reactive and pro-active behaviours, and social abilities support. This paper presents Fabricare, a prototype system for handling the problem of dynamic scheduling of manufacturing orders, considering incomplete information. We assume the holonic paradigm as a "vision" and overall guiding structure, while the agent paradigm is used as a development or implementation technology.
