SIMULA was a language for modeling and programming and provided a unified approach to modeling and programming in contrast to methodologies based on structured analysis and design. The current development seems to be going in the direction of separation of modeling and programming. The goal of this paper is to go back to the future and get inspiration from SIMULA and propose a unified approach. In addition to reintroducing the contributions of SIMULA and the Scandinavian approach to object-oriented programming, we do this by discussing a number of issues in modeling and programming and argue1 why we consider a unified approach to be an advantage.
