Basing on the principle of reflective displacement fiber-optic sensor, a non-touch on-line optical fiber measurement system for roller wear is presented by testing the displacement between the surface of the roller and the fiber-optic probe precisely. Also by using the technology of photo electricity conversion, signals disposal and a novel fiber-optic probe of three optical fibers in equal transverse space, the effects of fluctuations in the light source, reflective changing of target surface and the intensity losses in the fiber lines are automatically compensated. And artificial neural network is used to process the sensor's output signal, which could enhance the measuring accuracy and nonlinear calibration. By discussed in theory and experiment the measuring range is 0 to 1.5mm and the resolution is 1μm. This method offers such advantages as non-touch, no electromagnetic interference, simple construction, high sensitivity, good accuracy and stability. And the multi-point sensor system can be used to on-line and non-touch monitor in working locale.
