Mobile location schemes are investigated for wideband code-division multiple-access (WCDMA) cellular networks based on single receiver receiving signals from both the home base station and the mobile station as a third party. To achieve high accuracy and low cost the location scheme utilizes one receiver and combines the time differential of arrival (TDOA) measurement from the uplink Dedicated Physical Channel (DPCH) signal to downlink DPCH signal together with the direction of arrival (DOA) measurement from the received uplink signal. The Cramer-Rao Bound (CRB) of location error is derived and compared with computer simulations. Simulation results indicate this method can afford satisfied location accuracy with relative fewer cost.
