This paper applies Electric Power Transformer (EPT) into the distribution network to optimize and control the voltage and reactive power synthetically. As EPT has the following advantages: generation and absorption of reactive power, high controllability; constant output voltage of secondary side in amplitude regardless of load changing, moreover, smooth and adjustable; the adjustable power factor of primary and secondary side, all of these is not possessed by traditional transformer. Against the shortcoming of slow convergence speed with simple GA, this paper has improved simple GA, such regards as: coding adopts integer coding, selection operators employ the roulette gamble selection combined with the superior individual save strategy, mutation operators use uniform mutation, etc, all of above-mentioned modification speed up the calculation and ultimately improve the convergence property of the algorithm. Analysis of test example indicate EPT can reduce power loss effectively, improve voltage quality of distribution networks, reduce the expense of the reactive-load compensation equipment, thus better satisfy the need of the electric customer to power quality.
